His Humanity stolen
I feel like Jefferson being referred to as a hog is a rude remark and an incredibly poor and disrespectful way to defend someone. The attorney attempts to defend Jefferson by calling him a hog, but the defense backfires as it disrespects Jefferson and his family. The attorney was trying to say that Jefferson was too dumb to commit the murder by comparing him to a lowly hog, the defense doesn't even work and Jefferson is simply left embarrassed and disgraced while looking forward to a death sentence. The remark affected Tante Lou, Miss Emma, and Jefferson so deeply because they were all disrespected by the comment. Jefferson had his humanity basically stolen from him in front of a courtroom full of people and his family. Tante Lou and Miss Emma would of course be offended because the lawyer has just insulted someone they care about deeply.
