Week 1
We read through some of the book and learned the setting and plot of the book. A man named Jefferson is accused of murdering the white owner of a local store. He is belittled in front of the entire court in an attempt to defend him, although all it does is leave a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Jefferson's mother gets a teacher named Grant to teach Jefferson while he awaits his death in order to prove that he isn't as stupid as the attorney tried to say.
